Tras publicar cuatro discos para Hispavox, en 1974 el grupo suspende su actividad discográfica para retomarla cinco años después, cuando editan independientemente este disco (el último, ya que el grupo se disuelve poco después). Un retorno al sonido sinfónico tras el más popero "4" (1974).

After recording four albums for the Hispavox label (a company that released and distributed music in Spain for many different major labels, until being finally bought by EMI in 1984), in 1974 the group ceases their recording activities to come back five years later, when they independently release this album (their last one, since the group disbanded shortly after). It is a return to their symphonic roots after the poppy "4" (1974).
In an interview Pepe Robles (vocals and guitar) stated that this album was released with three diferent sleeves. Link in comments.

"Pentadelia" es el disco debut de esta banda catalana, un trabajo conceptual de 56 minutos, descargable de manera gratuita a través de su página web (en formato MP3 de máxima calidad, y WAV, para los más exigentes). Si bien su sonido está firmemente anclado en el sinfonismo que todos conocemos, de alguna manera el grupo no cae en clichés ni suena particularmente a nadie. El primer tema, 48, es un instrumental potente y cercano a lo que conocemos como metal progresivo. Le sigue Supernova, esta vez con letra - en este aspecto el grupo flaquea un poco respecto a su faceta instrumental: a lo largo del disco, hay temas en los cuales la melodía vocal arranca con poca fuerza, pero cobra forma poco después. Supernova (o Las Tripas De Goliath, que empieza con una melodía horrible, y al minuto 1:13 cambia para mejor, mucho mejor) es un buen ejemplo. La tercer pista se llama Santuario, y tiene una lírica muy melódica, casi popera. Me recuerda a algunos grupos de rock andaluz azucarados, como Amadablan, pero sin acento (ni los habituales clichés propios del género). Es posiblemente el tema más simple del disco, aunque efectivo. Ensor es un instrumental de casi 4 minutos poco relevante en sí, pero sirve de puente entre Santuario y Hombre Menguante. Esta última arranca con una melodía estupenda, uno de los momentos álgidos de Pentadelia. La segunda mitad de Hombre Menguante decae un poco, debido a la letra en inglés, principalmente. La siguiente pista, Waiting For A Sign, también incluye letras en inglés y es la más aburrida del disco. Mehari es principalmente instrumental, y tampoco aporta nada. Las Tripas De Goliath se encarga de cerrar el disco, y sin duda le hace levantar vuelo tras el bache anterior. Tanto las partes instrumentales como vocales (salvo el primer minuto) son acertadas y ayuda a dejarme con un buen sabor de boca.
RESUMEN: Albatros debuta con un disco satisfactorio, pese a ciertas meteduras de pata como incluir temas en inglés (¿un disco conceptual en dos idiomas distintos? WTF?) o su horrible pronunciación. Debería ser del agrado de cualquier amante del rock sinfónico contemporáneo. De hecho, es mejor que la mayor parte del rock sinfónico que se hace en estos días.

Para rematar, me gustaría comentar que este grupo no está afiliado a SGAE. Al comprar su CD, esta empresa no ve un céntimo de los 8 euros que cuesta. Hace una semana me hice con un ejemplar, y la verdad es que la presentación es muy prolija, con CD estampado y unos bonitos dibujos a cargo de la novia de uno de los integrantes del grupo. Podéis descargaros el arte de tapa en el enlace de comentarios, y comprobarlo vosotros mismos. Felicitaciones a Albatros, no sólo por ser independientes y compartir su obra altruistamente, sino también por su profesionalidad y cuidado de este tipo de detalles.

"Pentadelia", a concept work that clocks at 56 minutes, is the debut album by this catalan band. It is downloadable for free from their website (in top quality MP3 format as well as WAV format). Even though their sound is deeply rooted in the symphonism we all know, somehow the band manages not to fall into clichés neither sound like anybody else particularly. The first track, 48, is a powerful tune that falls into the progressive metal label. The next one, Supernova, does feature lyrics - here the band lack a bit of ability compared to the instrumental department: there are vocal tracks with a weak start, that turn better aftwerwards, all over the album. Supernova is a good example of this. Also Las Tripas De Goliath, which starts off with a horrid vocal melody until the first minute, when it evolves into something much better. Santuario, the third track, has some very melodic, almost poppy, lyrics. At moments it reminds me of certain sweetened andalusian rock bands, like Amadablan, but without the so characteristic accent and flamenco flavour (nor the usual clichés that sub-genre suffers of). It is possibly the simplest track on the album, but effective nevertheless. Ensor is a near 4 minute instrumental of little relevance itself, but it does serve as a bridge between Santuario and Hombre Menguante; this one starts with a terrific melody and it is one of the best moments of Pentadelia. The second half of the song falls short, though, due to its lyrics in english. The next track, Waiting For A Sign, features lyrics in english as well, and it is very boring. Mehari is an almost instrumental track that means nothing to my ears. Las Tripas De Goliath is the last track and it helps a lot to lift album after the previous misstep. Not only the instrumental part but also the lyrical part are both enjoyable. This track helps to conclude the album in a higher note.
CONCLUSION:
Pentadelia is an enjoyable piece of work, despite some flaws such as including a few songs in english (two different languages in a concept album? WTF?) and its terrible spelling. Should appeal to any contemporary symphonic rock lover. In fact, Pentadelia sounds better than most symph prog being made these days.
RATE: 7 out of 10.
As a footnote, I'd like to point out this band is not associated to SGAE (the spanish RIAA). When you buy their album, SGAE does not get a penny out of the 8 euros (12 $) it costs. Last week I bought my copy and the art is beautiful. The CD itself is patterned and the booklet features some wonderful drawings penned by the girlfriend of one of the band members. Congratulations Albatros, not only for unselfishly sharing your work but also for your professionality and attention to details like these.
